L.For many years now, there has been proliferation of fake drugs that are produced and sent into the market for the consumers. Instead of consumers taking original or genuine drugs to get well, most times what they see are fake one which are produced by some high-minded profit conscious individual who go back to reduce the quality and standard with which a particular drug was produced. And the rate at which these fake drugs are pushed to the market by these impersonators has to be checkmated if we must protect maternal and child health as one of the millennium development goals. Drug Information Management system for sustainable Child and Maternal Health is a web -based system for tracking these faked products and determining the originality of the drug, The essence is to provide the general public, especially women of childbearing ages, with immediate access to information about drugs, the distributors and manufactures, give reports/comments on consumed drugs as well as confirm the authenticity of drugs circulation within the country. This will, hence, reduce the high mortality rate in Nigeria that results from the consumption of substandard and fake drugs by the people. In achieving this, we employed the waterfall design methodology. Adobe Dreamweaver was used for the front end designs, while the database was handled using MySQL and PHP was the server side programming language used. The result is a simple application that has the capacity to register names of drugs, distributors and manufacturers, verify registered drugs by consumers, view banned or unbanned drugs and finally give feedback reports on circulated drugs. With this application, the rate of proliferation of fake drugs can be controlled and child and maternal health can be safeguarded for national development.Item Open Access Poverty reduction through entrepreneurship in librarianship: The role of librarians and information managers in Nigeria(Federal University of Technology, Owerri, 2015-11-05) Said, T. I.Entrepreneurship is mainly concerned with reducing poverty, unemployment, promoting self-reliance and providing opportunity for individuals to contribute to the economic development of any nation through innovation and change. It is a venturesome spirit which predisposes a person to undertake new ventures or try new methods in producing goods and services. This study examines poverty reduction through entrepreneurship in librarianship: the role of librarians and information managers in Nigeria. Among the area covered are concepts of poverty, concepts of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial skills and opportunities available for librarians and information managers in Nigeria; the role of librarians and information managers in entrepreneurship in librarianship for poverty reduction in Nigeria. The study concludes that among the various entrepreneurial opportunities available are digitization of library materials, electronic publishing, indexing and abstracting services, reprographic services, library networking, to mention but a few. Finally, the study recommends among others, that government at all levels and Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) should provide fund for librarians and information managers on any chosen entrepreneurial opportunity available after graduation from library and information science schools. This would go a long way in ensuring self-reliance, poverty reduction, reduced unemployment and equally provide opportunities for librarians and information managers to contribute to the economic development of Nigeria.
