Abstract
The inhibitive action of leaf extracts of Sansevieria trifasciata on aluminium corrosion in 2 M HCl and 2 M KOH solutions was studied using the gasometric technique. The results indicate that the extract functioned as a good inhibitor in both environments and inhibition efficiency increased with concentration. Synergistic effects increased the inhibition efficiency in the presence of halide additives. Temperature studies revealed a decrease in efficiency with rise in temperature and corrosion activation energies increased in the presence of the extract. A mechanism of physical adsorption is proposed for the inhibition behaviour. The adsorption characteristics of the inhibitor were approxi mated by Freundlich isotherm
